MONKAYO, Davao de Oro - The Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Davao de Oro (YFPMDdO) participated in and witnessed the successful declaration of Davao de Oro as "Insurgency-free" during its official declaration and pronouncement by Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy at the Executive Building of Capitol Complex, Nabunturan, Davao de Oro on Wednesday, June 22.
The said declaration came after the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU), Philippine Army units, and other peace partners in the province ended the more than 50 years of armed conflict brought by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) through the dismantling of the oldest CTG guerilla unit in Mindanao and the last remaining in Davao de Oro.
Gov. Uy said that a resolution was passed officially declaring Davao de Oro an insurgency-free province following the report from military officials that the CTG had already left Davao de Oro,
The ceremonial declaration was enjoined by the multi-sectoral groups in the province including the YFPM Davao de Oro, select personalities, Barangay Development Program (BDP) beneficiaries represented by their Punong Barangays, and other officials who imparted to achieving an insurgency-free province.
During an interview, Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy expressed his gratitude to the youth most especially to the Youth for Peace Movement for their contribution to the freedom of the province from the communist insurgency.
"Thank you kaayo sa mga katawhan ug kabataan nato sa Davao de Oro. Since nabuo nato ang Youth for Peace Movement, dako kaayo og tabang sa pag prevent sa recruitment, for the last 4 yrs. Wala nako nakadungog nga naa pay kabataan nga na recruit gikan sa atong probinsya," he said.
The Governor also said that allowing the youth to participate in governance and development works is essential to preventing them from CTG recruitment.
"Continue educating our youth. Give them enough participation sa pang gobyerno, Through the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and even as mga local councils nato, hatagan nato'g tingog ang atong mga kabataan as they will be part of the development, planning, and project implementation, and so on. Sa part sa governance sa Probinsiya ug sa LGUs, mas maayo," Gov. Uy added.
Meanwhile, Jess Elton Largado, the President of YFPM Davao de Oro thanked Gov. Uy for his appreciation of the organization, saying that it was the best "success indicator" of their efforts for peace in the province since its inception in 2014.
"YFPM Davao de Oro has been one of the partners of the PLGU in promoting and attaining peace. Although it has only become a member of the Provincial Peace and Order Council in 2019, the organization has been supporting the government through its youth development programs that aim to prevent them from the CTG's recruitment since 2014," he emphasized.
