MAWAB, Davao de Oro - A total of 88 members of the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Mawab Chapter actively participated in the conduct of its 1st Panagtapok ug Pakighimamat with the theme "PEACE BUILDERS UNITE!: Championing Peace Movement through Strengthening of Ties in the Grassroot Level" held last February 5, 2022, at Covered Court of Brgy. Tuboran here. Panagtapok ug Pakighimamat is an annual general assembly of all YFP graduates being implemented by every chapter under YFPM Davao de Oro.
Its goal is to bring together and reconnect the members, to update them on the organization's state, and to celebrate its accomplishments.
YFPM Mawab's first-ever gathering also aims to develop the ties of all Youth Leadership Summit graduates in the municipality, as well as remind them on the mission and vision of the organization to empower the youth, particularly at the grassroots level. The said activity kicked off through at opening program, graced by the Municipal Youth Development Council Officer, Hon. Bob R. Mirasol; Guest Speaker, Pvt. Elbhert Jhan Baybay from the 28th Infantry Battalion; Mr. Jess Elton Largado, the YFPM Provincial President; SK Chairpersons from the different Barangays of Mawab; Provincial Council officers of YFPM Davao de Oro.
Further, fun activities such as the "Amazing Race" and "Quiz Bee" continued to assemble the peace advocates, despite the unscheduled power interruption. This is wherein the peacebuilders got to know more and formed bonds. In the afternoon during the Volunteer Orientation and Designation, Mr. Jess Elton Largado, lectured over the Four Thematic Advocacies in detail. The members then gathered and choose which track they wanted to engage in and appointed their coordinators.
Following this, the attendees also had their election of the chapter officers for the year 2022-2023 wherein Ardie Louise L. Villapaz was elected as the new President of the YFPM Mawab chapter.
"Let us help one another in achieving our chapter's goals and let's remain each other's strength. Padayon nato nga pamuy-an ang atoang adbokasiya and may we continually allow ourselves to grow more in this organization. Dasig kay daghan gasálig, fellow peace sibs", Villapaz said during her message.
Meanwhile, the venue was once again filled with cheers as the participants joyfully presented their jingles and yells during the awarding and closing ceremony.
The successful implementation of the said event was made possible through the support of the various peace partners of the organization such as the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) headed by Hon. Ruperto S. Gonzaga III, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Municipal Federation of Mawab, the Municipal Youth Development Office (MYDO) and the 28th Infantry (Kamagong) Battalion .
Moreover, the facilitators made sure that social distancing and wearing of facemasks were applied during the event.
