YFPM Magpet holds talk, preps volunteers on upcoming community project

MAGPET, Cotabato — In order to equip the volunteers with enough knowledge on the proper implementation of its upcoming community development project, the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Magpet initiated an orientation on May 19 at the Alpha Company of the 72nd Infantry Battalion (IB) in Brgy. Pangao-an here. The said orientation was in preparation for the roll-out of YFPM North Cotabato's Project PLEAD (Peace Literacy, Education And Development), which will provide a series of peace learning, tutorial sessions, feeding activities, and developmental activities like farming to the residents of Sitio Plato, Barangay Mahongcog in Magpet. Various speakers were present during the activity who shared their expertise on varied topics: Datu Martin Anim, Tribal Chieftain of Brgy. Mahongcog, for IP Cultural Sensitivity Forum; Sgt Mechael C. Esteva for Area of Operation Status; Ian S. Juntarciego, YFPM Cotabato Secretary, for 6 Paths of Empowerment; and Judy O. Selloriquez, YFPM Cotabato Adviser, for the presentation of Project PLEAD concept. During his talk, Selloriquez emphasized that Project PLEAD will sustain the efforts of the organization in the province, especially as it celebrates its 5th anniversary this May 30. “Let us continue to make initiatives that will promote an impact on the communities, especially to the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in our province. This Project PLEAD is a manifestation that we continue such a call,” he said. Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Jose C. Regonay Jr., the Commanding Officer of 72IB challenged the participants to continually uphold the core values of the organization in bridging the community.

The Gawad Kalinga (GK) Coordinator of North Cotabato, Ariel Berien, also addressed the participants and expressed that GK is delighted to serve as one the partner organizations in the said project through their 'Tuldokan ang Gutom Program'.
