SAGADA, Mountain Province — The Youth for Peace-Mountain Province Youth Organization (YFP-MPYO) has organized an event in response to the call to empower the Sagada youth to become peace advocates through a 3-day Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) held at the Elementary School of Brgy. Ambasing here on May 13 to 15. With the theme, "Moving and Empowering the Youth towards Peace and Sustainable Development," the event aims to educate the youth about current social issues in their community and country and empower them on how they could contribute towards addressing the said issues through nation-building, A total of 47 young representatives from Barangays Ambasing, Patay, Demang, Baluga, Laboratory Cooperative of SMPC, and Treasure Link Cooperative Society (TLCS) graduated at the summit. During the 3-day event, participants engaged in a series of lectures about anti-illegal drugs, Basic First Aid, Financial Literacy, Role of the Youth in Nation Building, Gender Awareness and Development, Teenage Pregnancy, Crime Prevention, Violence against Women and Children( VAWC), Principles of Leadership, Values formation, and Information Dissemination on Anti-Terrorism. There were also team-building activities, a clean-up drive, and outreach activities where the attendees experienced giving in-kind donations to a community. Carmen T. Malabong, the President of YFP-MPYO expressed her gratitude to the participants and challenged them to apply their learnings in their future endeavors, especially in conducting community services in their respective communities. "May it serve as a guide and inspiration as you move and reach your endeavors in life. We will be the proudest if someday our YLS/MYPD alumni are successful in each of their fields,” Malabong said. She also gave her message to the partners and stakeholders who supported them until the end of the activity. "We are beyond grateful for all the sacrifices, efforts, and time that everybody gave for this empowerment activity; for the youth who are the hope of the fatherland. It was indeed a rigorous one but with all the support - financially, physically, and emotionally - we were able to survive and successfully finished the three-day activity with smiles on the faces of the participants," she expressed. "Together, we worked and rightfully educated the youth to transform them to becoming effective and functional members of society. Iyaman!," the MPYO President added. Meanwhile, the said activity was made possible through the support of the 702nd Infantry Brigade, 69th Infantry Battalion (IB), Bravo Company of the 54IB, 1st & 2nd Mountain Province Provincial Mobile Force Company, Sagada Municipal Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection-Sagada, Treasure Link Laboratory Coop, Sagada Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SMPC) Laboratory Cooperative, Ambasing Elementary School, and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Ambasing.
