BAGUIO CITY - Youth for Peace (YFP) Baguio City Chapter joined the Regional Youth Peace and Consultation of the Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Process (OPAPRU) at the Strawberry Valley Hotel and Restaurant, La Trinidad, Benguet on April 19-21.
The three-day consultation is in lieu of the Philippine Government's approach to reaffirming its commitment to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 (UNSCR 2250) emphasizing the youth's significant role in maintaining and promoting peace and security.
This is highlighted in OPAPRU's Social Healing and Peacebuilding Program in implementing conflict-sensitive and peace-promoting interventions specifically catering to the vulnerable sectors in the society, particularly those in conflict areas which include women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, internally displaced persons, surfacing and former violent extremists and their communities as well as the LGBTQIA+.
It was attended by representatives from Senior High School and University Student Councils, the Local Youth Development Councils, Diocese, and other youth and peace-promoting organizations from the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The program covered topics on the Six-Point Peace and Development Agenda, National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, Culture of Peace, Gender, Youth and Women in Peace and Security, and love for the environment.
During the event, 2LT Prescilla S. Gayo, the Adviser of the YFP Baguio City Chapter, introduced the roles of the youth in peacebuilding and presented the Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP) efforts to empower the youth, which materialize in the contribution of YFP Baguio in peacebuilding and development to the youth and community of Baguio and Benguet.
To further present the said organization's goals, identity, and opportunities for the youth and other sectors of the society, President Jomar S. Herry, Vice President Jewel Chrissaerain F. Tucneg, and Community Development Assistant Morgan P. Atiw-an of YFP Baguio highlighted how the AFP supported their organization's vision and mission during their presentation of accomplishments.
Meanwhile, during the activity, the participants have also shared their experiences and struggles in their peacekeeping efforts and exchanged promises for a collaborative and sustainable partnership to end the insurgency and promote a positive approach toward youth empowerment in their community, schools, and at home.
