MARIHATAG, Surigao del Sur - A total of 37 youth participants from four barangays were confirmed as new volunteers of the Youth for Peace and Development Movement Philippines after finishing the 3-day activity named the "1st Indigenous Peoples' Youth Leadership Summit" at Marihatag Tree Park and Resort last July 27-29, 2021.
The opening program remains unforgettable after Hon. Jovita Umapas, the Vice - Mayor of the Municipality of Marihatag serve as Guest Of Honor And Speaker and delivered her speech with a challenge to the youth to remain steadfast in preserving their culture and being the hope of Marihatag.
While the unique ambiance of the venue filled the excitement of attendees, the whole duration of the activity was also packed with different competitions, lectures, and group activities that allowed the participants to showcase their talents and skills.
It also boosted their confidence, gain relevant information, and help them value their culture and tradition more as part of the Manobo Tribe.
In the closing ceremony, the Guest of Honor and Speaker, Mr. Danilo T. Alcantara, IPED Coordinator of DepEd Surigao del Sur Division shared his inspirational message to the IP Youth that they should use the PIE (Participation, Inclusion, Empowerment) principle to capacitate their strengths, and in return, enable them to support their communities.
The activity was conducted after IATF Against COVID-19 placed the Province of Surigao del Sur into General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
The organizer likewise assured that they have followed the Safety Protocols.
