MABINI, Davao de Oro - The Youth For Peace Movement (YFPM) Mabini Chapter, in partnership with the 28th Infantry Battalion (IB) and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Mabini, kicked off its banner program for the environment last March 6, 2021, at Subok, Brgy. San Antonio, Mabini, Davao de Oro, as the organization continues to call for unity in fighting for mother nature.
Entitled "Kalinaw Para Sa Kinaiyahan (KPSK)", the said community-based activity is under the organization's Community Development Program which aims to help the government and coastal communities in protecting, preserving, and attaining a peaceful environment for the "life on land" and "life below water."
The launching was graced by Hon. Halima B. Muñoz, Vice Mayor of Mabini; Hon. Carlos Suarez, Municipal Councilor; Hon. Shirly Ann S. Aban, Punong Barangay of San Antonio; Hon. Renz Marion B. Flaminia, SK Chairperson of San Antonio; and their constituents, personnel of 28IB, and YFPM volunteers.
“Padayon! Kay mao kini ang dakong hagit sa mga kabatan-onan nga magpakabana sa katilingban (Continue! Because this is the greatest challenge for all the youth who are taking an initiative for the society),” Hon. Crisente Perez, Brgy. Councilor of San Antonio said as he welcomed the guests and volunteers during the opening program.
After the opening, a brief orientation on the importance of planting mangroves was given by Mr. Peter Jess Berdon, an Aquaculturist of PAGRO Davao de Oro, and was shortly followed by the coastal clean-up and planting of 1,000 mangrove seedlings.
This year’s KPSK will be a series of weekend activities on selected coastal barangays of Mabini for the whole month of March as the YFPM Mabini immensely calls the public to observe their social and environmental responsibilities in protecting mother nature.
The said month-long activity is also in line with the celebration of some significant environmental events such as the International Day of Forest on March 21, and the Earth Hour on March 27.
