Maco youth volunteers spend 'Day of Valor' break thru Coastal Clean-up

MACO, Davao de Oro - A total of 425 youth stormed the coastal areas here during the "Araw ng Kagitingan" holiday, not to spend their time dipping on the beach but to launch a cause to protect mother nature.

As the second quarter of 2021 comes in, the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Maco, in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Maco launched a Community Development event called "Kalinaw para a Kinaiyahan (KPSK): KAbarangayaLINAW Project" on April 9, 2021, at the Atty. Arturo T. Rimando Mini-Gym in Binuangan, Maco, Davao de Oro.

With the theme "Be Part of the Solution, Not Part of the Pollution," the environmental project was conducted through a simultaneous Coastal Clean-Up along the 11 Shoreline barangays of the said municipality with aim of boosting the community and its youth's participation in preserving and protecting the environment, as well as address various environmental issues in the target barangays that affect the Davao Gulf.

The ceremonial launching was graced by Cristian Angelo Nacua, YFPM Maco President; Hon. Jorlan Bon Sacay, SK Maco Federation President; CPT Dave Estorninos, Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Officer of 1001st Infantry Brigade; PSMS Baby Adonis L Arinabo, Representative of 115th Special Action Company (SAC); SSG Abner C Abejuela, Representative of 28th Infantry Battalion; SK Chairpersons, and YFPM Volunteers.

"The YFPM Maco is very eager to help our environment but we cannot do this alone. We need you, we need your commitment, we need to take small actions to make a big difference in our local community," Cristian Angelo Nacua, YFPM Maco President said as he encouraged the youth volunteers during the program.

After the ceremony, youth volunteers and government personnel who were deployed in different participating barangays simultaneously cleaned the areas while observing health protocols.

This was involved by the members of different youth organizations and government agencies such as the Municipality of Maco Scholarship Grant (MMSG), Compostela Valley Scholarship Program (CVSP), Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), Supreme Student Government (SSG), Peer Organization, Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), Sangguniang Kabataan; various uniformed personnel; LGU of Maco personnel; and YFPM Volunteers.

Meanwhile, volunteers of YFPM Maco are looking forward that the members of the participating youth organizations will continue to protect and preserve the environment, especially in their respective communities.

This year's KPSK will be a series of monthly activities in selected barangays of Maco.

In May, the organization will be heading to Eastern lines to conduct the 2nd wave of the environmental project.
