First Barangay YLS Launches in Surigao Sur town

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur — The Propelling Our Inherited National Through our Youth (POINTY) Surigao del Sur always aims for the better future of the youth through conducting various Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) in every city and municipality — even in barangays.

One of these was the recent YLS in Barangay Mangagoy here that was conducted for the first time through the initiative of Mr. Ramil Hamodiong, POINTY Bislig President, and Mangagoy SK Chairperson Hon. Sherlyn Ochea in partnership with the 48th Infantry "Guardian" Battalion and 67th Infantry "Agila" Battalion on September 10-13, 2021.

With the theme "Empowering the Youth to Attain a Permanent and Lasting Peace" the three-day event constitutes different lectures and experiences that unleashed the leadership potential of the youth in Barangay Mangagoy.

THE SELF AND THE SOCIETY

The activity enlightened the participants about self and social awareness which was the first step to become a good leader. Mr.

Robert A. Laurente, Jr., Chairperson of POINTY, shared "VITAL Signs" to the participants to become astute leaders.

The first YLS also provided an opportunity to awaken the youth participants' perspective in life as they reflect and release the burden in their hearts during the event's highlight - the candle lighting activity.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

To enhance the social skills of the youth and promote social responsibility, the participants were tested in the different Team Building activities during the YLS.

These activities were able to build cooperation, understanding, and camaraderie among participants which they can also apply in real-life situations

As the event ended, new officers of POINTY Mangagoy were elected to continue the goal of the organization to transform the youth as catalysts of change and peace development.

Live. Love. Advocate.
