COMPOSTELA, Davao de Oro - Seeking to assist the educational needs of the students and their parents in schools located at Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA), the Youth For Peace Movement (YFPM) Compostela Chapter, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and other private individuals, spearheaded a project entitled “A Peace of Happiness” on October 6, 2021, at the Kilabot Primary School (PS) and Bonkilaton Integrated School (IS) in Barangay Ngan here.
Some 150 learners from both schools were able to benefit from the school supplies-giving event.
Aside from this, the YFPM also turned over 10 reams of A4 bond paper, 40 pieces of assorted colored cartolina, and pencils to the teachers of the said schools to assist them in the modular type of learning.
Present during the programs were the teachers of the school led by Mr. Reynaldo Catienza, and was graced by Hon. Louegie Aguanta, the SK Chairman of Barangay Ngan.
Parents of the beneficiaries have also attended the program to witness the ceremonial hand-over of the donated school materials.
While doing so, physical distancing and other other minimum health standards against COVID-19 was assured.
In his speech, Mr. Reynaldo Catienza, the School-In-Charge of Bonkilaton IS and Kilabot PS expressed his gratitude for the initiative of the organization in choosing their schools as its beneficiary.
“Nagpasalamat mi ug dako kay ang amoang eskwelahan dire ang inyuhang napili na hatagan ug mga supply na kabalo jud kong makatabang sa mga bata,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jopel Bodongan, the President of YFPM Compostela shared that the people in the town centers of Compostela are concerned of the welfare of those in isolated areas such as Bongkilaton, especially their children.
“Gusto lang namo ipahibalo sa inyo na bisan pa man ug naa mo sa layo na dapit, always remember na naa gihapoy mga tao na naghunahuna sa inyo dire gikan didto sa ubos. Nga, wala kamo ginapabayaan sa LGU ug uban pa. Salamat kayo jud,” he said.
