MAWAB, Davao de Oro - With the goal of attaining lasting peace through youth empowerment, a Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) was conducted anew here last December 9-11, 2021 at the Andili Elementary School.
A total of 53 participants from the different barangays of Mawab succesfully completed the said summit.
With the theme, "Pakighinabi ug Pakiglambigit: Kabantan-onang Mawabeños Nakighiusa Alang sa Malungtarong Kalinaw ug Kalambuan," the YLS served as an avenue that aims to empower the youth sector, transform them into partners of government on peace-building, and protect them against armed struggle.
The three-day camp has engaged the participants in various team buildings, spiritual enhancement, and fellowship activities to test their leadership, instill new values, and learn to work with a team.
Through the help of competent speakers and the mentorship of the facilitators, the 6th YLS has also instilled new learnings among the new batch of leaders who will carry out lasting peace in their respective communities by using their voice, idealism, and abilities in a positive way.
During the event, safety guidelines and other health protocols were strictly observed to ensure that the participants are safe and protected from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Ardie Louise Lucero-Villapaz, the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Mawab President expressed her gratitude for the success of the event despite the threat of COVID-19.
"I am foregever grateful because amidst this pandemic, we were able to produce new batch of empowered graduates who will be our voice in continually attaining lasting peace in the communities," she said.
The 6th YLS Mawab was made possible through the support of various peace partners such as the 28th Infantry "Kamagong" Battalion, Local Government Unit of Mawab, Local Youth Development Council, Sangguniang Kabataan, and YFPM Mawab.
